Mary Samoy

Mary Kalikimaka Samoy, 73, of Waikoloa died Sept. 16, 2014 in Honolulu. Born in Waipio Valley, she was a homemaker.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Oct. 18 at The Kohala Landmark Baptist Church in Kapaau for an 11 a.m. service.

She is survived by husband, Toribio Samoy; sons, Darren Samoy and Toribio Samoy Jr.; daughters, Denise Samoy, Michele Smith; brother, Joe Delostrico; sister, Miriam Guerpo; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

Norman Brown

Norman Lowell Brown, 84, of Hilo died Oct. 6, 2014, at Pohai Malama. Born April 4, 1930 in Champaign, Ill., he was a security officer at Waiakea Villas, Kaikoo Mall and Hilo Shopping Center, member of the Jehovah’s Witnessses Hilo Congregation and an Army veteran.

Friends may call at 3 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Jehovah’s Witnesses Wainaku Kingdom Hall for a service. Online condolences may be posted at homelanimemorialpark.com.

He is survived by daughter, Nalani Johnston of Corning, Calif.; son, Stacy Sauer of Clearlake, Calif.; stepdaughter, Patricia (Barry) Shanahan of Idaho; sister, Lorraine (Tom) Randel of Red Bluff, Calif.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Dennis Maeda

Dennis Gene Maeda, 67, of Keaau died Sept. 30, 2014, at The Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu. Born July 14, 1947, in Kohala, he was a retired maintenance supervisor for Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Co., a retired heavy equipment mechanic/supervisor for Hilo Coast Processing Co., former employee for Kohala Sugar Mill and member of Family Christian Center in Hilo.

Friends may call at 2 p.m. Oct. 19 at Dodo Mortuary chapel, Hilo for a 4 p.m. service. A graveside committal service is at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 20 at Alae Cemetery, Section K. Family requests aloha attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Valerie Maeda of Keaau; sons, Darren (Anuhea) Maeda of Mountain View, Dion (Leisha) Maeda of Boston; daughters, Marla (Kimo) Kahele of Keaau, Liana Maeda of Haverhill, Mass.; mother, Rose Maeda of Kohala; brothers, Danny Maeda and Alvin (Anita) Maeda, both of Hilo; sisters, Annette (Buddy) Reyes of California, Sylvia (Buddy) Hussey of Kaneohe; nine grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
